Hosea 9
This text is tailored to teach us to rejoice not when God’s covenant is broken.
I.
Rejoice not when God is forsaken because covenant blessings will turn into covenant curses, instead love God more than his blessings because Jesus became the curse for us. (v. 1-6, cf. Gal. 3:13)
II. Rejoice not when God’s people have deeply corrupted themselves because their sin will be punished, instead encourage one another to know the Lord because Jesus gives us new hearts. (v. 7-9, cf. Heb. 8)
III. Rejoice not when God’s people become like the shame they’ve loved because their glory will be removed, instead imitate Jesus because he will restore our glory. (v. 10-14, cf. Matt. 28:18-20)
IV. Rejoice not when God’s people do not listen to their God because God will reject them, instead listen to Jesus because he is God’s beloved son, who intercedes for us. (v.15-17, cf. Matt. 17:5-7)
