This text is tailored to teach us that God’s people can rejoice in suffering because of the living hope they have in Jesus Christ.
I. Our Certain Hope (v. 3-5)
A. Our hope is certain because it is through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. (v. 3)
B. Our hope is certain because it is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. (v. 4)
C. Our hope is certain because we are being guarded for it by God’s power through faith. (v. 5)
II. Joy in Suffering (v. 6-9)
A. We rejoice in suffering because our hope points us beyond our trials. (v. 6, 8-9)
B. We rejoice in suffering because of what trials produce in our life. (v. 7)
